At this time of year, many of us have pumpkins ripening in the garden making the most of the last sunny days before autumn. Our photo shows the pumpkins in our garden grown from a variety of seed called Gran Gigante. As you can see, this a giant pumpkin variety that can grow to record size! It is easy to grow and keeps well. . October is a typical month to harvest the fruit ready for the Hallowe’en festival on the 31st but how is it best to harvest and store them?

Over 30 schools took part in our Lincolnshire Schools Pumpkin Challenge this year, each tasked with the project of taking their free seeds from Original Touch and trying to grow the heaviest pumpkin. We have really enjoyed listening to news from all schools, especially those who have expanded their interest in the vegetable plot as a result of this year’s competition.
